Diablo V: Spring 2029

Diablo V is in development and targeting Spring 2029. The premise is the darkest in the series: the heroes of the past have failed, Sanctuary has fallen, and Diablo has won.

  • You are the Heir to Westmarch. Diablo rules from the throne of Westmarch and is present from the start of the game, not waiting at the end of it.
  • The world keeps changing. Blizzard describes a procedural landscape where terrain, points of interest, monsters and rewards can change when you return.
  • No towns, a caravan. You build a traveling caravan of survivors who act as vendors and companions. Two have been named so far: a former Sister of the Sightless Eye and a stranded Treasure Goblin.

First Three Classes

  • Demon Hunter returns with twin crossbows, striking from the shadows and leaping across the battlefield.
  • Monk returns, fighting with fists and calling down holy power.
  • Plague Knight is all-new: a heavily armored class that spreads disease and consumes it for power.

Game Director Joe Shely said on stage that Diablo V will launch with “more classes than ever before” and that he meant more classes total, not just more than another Diablo game at launch (GamesRadar+).

Items Go Back to Diablo II

  • Itemization is inspired by Diablo II, and the team is experimenting with stat requirements on gear.
  • Larger items once again take up more inventory slots.
  • Gear-based sets return.
  • Crafting builds on Lord of Hatred’s approach, with Diablo II-style Runes and Runewords.

Diablo IV: The Amazon Arrives in the First Half of 2027

Diablo IV’s first class pack brings back the Amazon in the first half of 2027. Key facts:

  • She hails from Skovos, the island introduced in Lord of Hatred.
  • The class is female-only.
  • She has four gameplay archetypes: Champion, Skirmisher, Ranger and Commander.
  • She wields the returning bow and the javelin, a brand-new weapon type for Diablo IV.

Pricing and the exact date will be shared next year, closer to release. Watch: Diablo IV | What’s Next Panel | BlizzCon 2026.

Seasons: What Is Confirmed, and What Isn’t

Season of Hell’s Legacy, the 30th-anniversary season, began rolling out on September 15. Deckard Cain returns, and you can confront Baal, Mephisto and Diablo and take up a Splinter of their power. At the What’s Next panel, Blizzard said upcoming seasons continue the story of the dead returning and the Cult of the Dead. They will also add War Plans refinements, such as playlist customization and seasonal variety, and expand itemization and customization to support more builds.

Blizzard has not announced a name, start date or end date for the next season. We will report it when it is official. For the current season’s fixes, see our Diablo IV Patch 3.2.3 breakdown.

Switch 2 and Netflix

  • Diablo IV: Age of Hatred Collection launched on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 15. It bundles the base game, Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred.
  • A Diablo animated series is in development with Netflix. No date has been given.

The RUIN Read

Diablo V is two and a half years out. For the near term, Diablo IV’s seasons and the 2027 Amazon pack are the game. Blizzard says more than 130 million players have entered Sanctuary across the franchise, and Diablo V’s itemization pitch is aimed squarely at the Diablo II veterans in that number. The test will be whether those systems ship as described. RUIN will keep tracking Diablo, season by season.
