Diablo III: Reaper of Souls

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls is the first expansion for Diablo III. First announced at Gamescom 2013. Available for both both PC and Mac as well as a console version launching 25th March, 2014. Reaper of souls addressed many of the major problems from Diablo III. The controversial real money Auction House has been removed and the core loot grind action RPG game play has been polished, streamlined and completely overhauled. Having had a chance to play the recent 2.01 (more information provided below) I can personally attest to how fun and addictive Diablo III has become. The loot system has made it much easier and more enjoyable to improve your character. The addition of a Clan system to make it easier to find and create groups with your friends.

Diablo II did not come fully into its own until the release of its first expansion. Blizzard no doubt hopes that they can expand upon the Diablo III franchise while returning to core gameplay roots. Reaper of Souls looks like pure fun and well worth picking up. I strongly recommend dusting off your characters and joining us in Ruin Gaming as we hack and slash our way through the death themed Reaper of Souls.

Patch 2.0.1

Prior to the release of Reaper of Souls a final patch for Diablo III has been made available. A major revamp of the Paragon leveling system (levels that provide additional stats at level 60 in the base Diablo III game) has been added. The Paragon level cap has been removed and paragon levels have become account rather than character bound.

Loot 2.0

Loot now drops with increased quality and more powerful.  Stats have been reworked to provide a greater chance of useful properties for each class. In addition “smart drops” in which drops will select from a class specific set of stats.  More Legendary items of better quality now drop. Set pieces and legendary items now drop as the only unidentified items. Set peices and Legendary items are now bind to account once identified. Unidentified Legendary and Set items may still be traded.

Crafting Changes

The patch additionally refined crafting materials so that low level materials now drop as “common debris.” Common debris can be gathered by breaking down common white items or by finding them as loot. The patch also added new materials that may drop to craft a legendary specific item. Another notable change took place in the refinement of potions into one type for less confusion.

The patch also introduced a new shrine called “pool of reflection.”

Difficulty Levels

In patch 2.0.1 the Normal, Nightmare, Hell and Inferno modes have been replaced with a scaling system, the higher the player’s level the more difficult the monsters. Higher difficulty settings now offer higher quality rewards, gold, experience and equipment.
