Rise of the Hutt Cartel Star Wars: The Old Republic

Rise of the Hutt Cartel

JT reviews the Rise of the Hutt Cartel expansion!

Review

Rise of the Hutt Cartel improves many of the core features of Star Wars: The Old Republic, though falls short of addressing many of the core shortcomings such as addressing the absence of promised World PvP zones. Rise of the Hutt Cartel handles the additional five levels and expanded talent trees well. Bioware has clearly attempted to fix many of the class balance and ability issues that have been a source of contention among players since launch.

The controversial addition of same-gender romance options do exist, but are so limited in scope as to make one wonder how what all of the commotion was about. Once again Bioware deserves some praise here for sticking to their guns in at least this area and going through with the implementation of the feature. That said the romance options present in SWTOR are so limited as to be only a minor aspect of the game.

Crafting has also been expanded with an additional five levels. However, the additions focus primarily on additional modifications (stat bonus implants for equipment) rather than new gear and ship equipment. More attention in this area will likely be required.

Verdict

Overall Rise of the Hutt Cartel is an incremental improvement Star Wars: The Old Republic. From the outset this addition was meant to make minor improvements and address existing issues within SWTOR. The end result is a new level maximum level of 55, with new daily quests which provide a new routine for end game players as well as new character abilities and mechanics. The addition of new armor and improvements to the leveling experience help to make Star Wars: The Old Republic more accessible to fans of the genre.

The major selling point of Hutt Cartel is its $10 price tag for subscribers and $20 for a non-subscribers. Its well worth supporting the continued development of Star Wars in the hopes that some of the more ambitious long term features are eventually implemented.
