Star Wars: The Old Republic breaks pre-order records

Cowen and Company upgrade outlook on Star Wars: The Old Republic. Their initial projections of 1.5 million units with an estimated retention of 1 million subscribers have been increased to 3 million subscribers with a retention of two million players.  This doubles their projections on EA Bioware’s massive multi player online game. EA has invested heavily in this title and expectations are high.

Star Wars: The Old Republic has smashed all previous pre-order records, resulting in the increased confidence for investors. The volume of sales have surprised analysts and highlights the strength of confidence in Bioware and the rabid Star Wars fan base.

To put these numbers in perspective World of Warcraft: Cataclysm sold 4.7 million units, however, Star Wars is quickly catching up and may surpass these figures by the Holiday season. Bioware has announced that they will make a firm release date for the title known in September.
